From Lionel Goulet: Gather Groups are starting up again. Because putting a dinner together for 14 people is such a chore, what OTHER ideas are there for Gather Groups? What have other people done? Taryn's idea about bowling would be a good one if there were bowling alleys anymore.

Longest Night Service Thursday, December 20, 2018 7:00 pm As we come to the end of Advent, it has become a custom in many communities to acknowledge that the Christmas season with all of its light and expectation can be a difficult time for those who struggle with depression and grief. We will gather together on this evening, close to the winter Solstice - the day that holds the most darkness - to worship God in the midst of mourning and lament. We gather to cry, to comfort, and to ask together with our forebears in the faith, "How long?"
First Sunday in Advent 2018 - Dec 2 - come for the 2nd Sunday in Advent this week, Dec 9

Today Pastor Goodman spoke about the woman who gave her last pennies. He showed the food basket in the children's lesson. We have the food basket all year long and, from time to time, we point it out again. Please check the bulletin for suggested items to donate, if you want.
Pastor Goodman gets help to explain the parable of the rich young man.
Here you can easily see the mums which are beginning to bloom. They came from a plant which came from a plant which I got from Harvey Bingham, a former member, and they always have given me joy. I thought it was a nice thing to have them now at St Paul. You can also see the disturbed dirt, if you look. At the end by the curb stone. There are crocuses there, just planted. Crocuses are a promise in the fall that spring will come.

There was a request for the fudge sauce recipe. We had hot fudge on ice cream after gardening. I altered the original in some small way. I always make a double recipe just because then I use one bag of chips and one pint of cream; those things are sold that way. Oh, and I dump all the stuff in a pot and heat and stir until smooth. Chocolate-fudge sauce from Tia Mowry Riff Ingredients 1 cup heavy cream 5 1/2 ounces semisweet chocolate chips from a bag 1/2 cup cocoa powder 1/2 cup sugar 2 tablespoons light corn syrup 1/8 teaspoon salt Directions In a medium saucepan set over low heat, cook the cream until just simmering, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the chocolate, and let it sit for 30 seconds. Remove from the heat, then whisk until the chocolate and cream are fully mixed. Whisk in the cocoa powder, the sugar, the corn syrup and salt. Mix well. -- www.cooingchanneltv.com This is a "stock" photo - just the idea of fudge on ice cream, not from the day....
We had a lovely gardening hour yesterday and I'm quite pleased with the revived hosta garden!
